hope

few days ago when we our work with the fish going about (we make something else these days?) I had a vision:

My grandchildren asked me how it was when it was still king salmon has given the Yukon River. After I give everything I had told about these extraordinary animals, one of the kids asked me why I had done for nothing, as the fish were dying. My grandchildren were too young to understand how our society and economy. And you and I, we hear the stories again and again and that makes us numb and resigned.

And we plunder

- because we are all connected to the industrial fishing companies in the Pacific king salmon fishing, with oil companies in the habitat of the fish to drill for oil and with the growing human population, the fish consumed -

on our natural resources and destroy the environment that makes our life possible.

How long?

What can I do to change how companies treat our world?

Is it too late or is there still hope?

I to ground to hope. I hope that we learn and grow - not deal in terms of our economy or our total population, but in reference to how we relate to the responsibility we have.

Fischrad: Introduction

We are a Fischrad on behalf of the Canadian Fisheries Department. The intention is to find out more about the migrating king salmon to set fishing quotas and protective measures. Our mission is to build the Fischrad and operate for a period of fish migration. We will catch the fish in live baskets, measure different aspects and then released back into the flow. Within the following days and weeks, the animals carry out their mission in life to spawn in small tributaries of the Yukon River and die, thus closing the life cycle of the salmon is king.

On the River

So far we have collected the parts of the fish wheel in Dawson City, bought wood and hardware and assembled the pontoons. Elias then fastened the raft on the right side of the boat. It lasted 8 hours, until we had mastered the 120 miles from Dawson City to Green Creek, but Elias' knowledge of the river the trip went smoothly.

I am Canadian!

first July, the Canadian national holiday, I took the Canadian citizenship. I was wondering, what does this new status for me: While Austria is my cultural mother, Canada, the love of my life. In Austria, my past and my roots, and Canada represented my future and the potential that lies before me.

patriotism takes in Canada is not so much the qualities of nationalism, and allows individual cultural identities, exist peacefully together and enrich each other. (In Austria, I saw always more of a definition 'of local' towards immigrants). At the end of the ceremony were the nations that The new citizens came calling, to applause. What a beautiful multi-cultural gesture of welcome!
